Breastmilk jewelry
Frequently asked questions
The average delivery time for a design from the webshop is between 4 and 8 weeks.
For creating a piece of jewelry with breast milk, I require approximately 10 ml of breast milk.
There are two ways to provide your breast milk:
- In-person delivery: You can bring your breast milk during a visit to the studio.
- Shipping kit: If you order your jewelry online, you can request a shipping kit during checkout. The kit will be sent to you free of charge. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions included and return the kit to us at no cost. You will be notified as soon as we have received your material.
The jewelry is filled with great care in the studio, ensuring a calm and precise process. At this time, you are not able to be present during the filling.
Every mother produces unique milk, sometimes richer in protein, sometimes higher in fat, more watery, or sweeter. Its composition also changes depending on the stage of breastfeeding. As a result, color, thickness, and shade of breast milk can vary significantly from person to person.
I work with a carefully prepared mixture of breast milk, a preservative, and resin. This combination ensures that the final piece is strong and durable. During this process, the stones often become slightly lighter in color than the original milk, but they maintain their beauty for a long time.
Yes, you can use breast milk that is fresh, stored, or thawed.
No, it is not necessary to send the breast milk refrigerated.
Jewelry pieces made with ashes, breast milk, or other memorial materials set in resin are water-resistant. However, despite being water-resistant, it is strongly advised not to swim, shower, bathe, or wash dishes while wearing them. Water can contain chemicals, such as soap, chlorine, or salt, that may damage or discolor the resin. Chlorinated water and seawater are particularly harmful to all types of jewelry.
Any damage caused by contact with water is not covered under the warranty.
Creating a memorial piece of jewelry is a careful and labor-intensive process. For this reason, it is unfortunately not possible to be present while I make a memorial jewelry piece or keepsake for you.
However, you are very welcome to visit my studio to drop off ashes, breast milk, or other materials, and to select a piece of jewelry with me while discussing your wishes. Please contact me in advance by email at info@luyendykjewelry.nl.
If you have a surplus, I can temporarily store an extra amount of unused breast milk for you. This way, if something happens to your jewelry in the near future, I can assist you quickly.
If you let me know in advance that you may want a second piece made in the future, I can store the milk for up to six months.
I do recommend that you always keep a small amount of breast milk frozen as a backup, just in case.
I treat the breast milk with a special drying process that helps preserve its color and minimize discoloration. However, keep in mind that resin can develop a warm, creamy glow over time due to exposure to UV light. This is a natural effect and is part of the material: it does not mean that the stone is turning yellow.
